I would like to share with you a Scots poem "Auld Lang Syne" (in English Long, long, ago) written in 1788 and set to the tune of a traditional folk song. Its traditional use is to bid farewell to the old year at the stroke of midnight. You can listen here to a beautiful rendition of Auld Lang Syne preceded by a New Year's Prayer by Charlotte Anselmo:

Sissel, a well-known soprano singer from Norway is singing the song Auld Lang Syne in English and Swedish. Here is a transcription of the lyrics in English and Swedish :

Should auld acquaintance be forgot

And days of auld lang syne?

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,

And days of auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear,

For auld lang syne.

We'll take a cup o'kindnesss yet,

And days of auld lang syne.

Skall vänskapen förbli, min vän (Shall friendship live on, my friend)

Och leva stark och sann (And live strong and true)

Ja, låt oss alla ära den (Yes, let all of us honor it)

Ge kärlek till varann (Give love to each other)

Tag här min hand, du trogna vän (Take my hand now, you faithful friend)

Gemenskapen är vår (Now we are together)

Den lever nu, den lever än (It lives now, it lives on)

I många långa år (For many long years).

Tag här min hand, du trogna vän (Take my hand now, you faithful friend)

Gemenskapen är vår (Now we are together)

Den lever nu, den lever än (It lives now, it lives on)

I många långa år (For many long years).

I många långa år! (For many long years!).
